Go Go Yuto! Inter defender Nagatomo produces anime series

While many of his peers release an autobiography of their life stories, Inter Milan defender Yuto Nagatomo has taken a different path to tell of his beginnings in football. The 26-year-old has chosen to oversee the production of a cartoon series, better known as ‘anime’ in Japan.

Titled "Go Go Yuto", the 26 episode-long series will premiere on Disney’s animation channel on June 14. The plot will revolve around an average kindergartener, who discovers football and struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming a footballer. The character and storyline will be largely based on Nagatomo’s own experience with football at a young age.

Nagatomo’s character will be voiced by Junko Takeuchi, who is famous for voicing the character of Naruto Uzumaki in the Japanese hit series, Naruto Shippuden. She has previously played a part in another Japanese football anime, titled "Inzazuma Eleven", where she lent her vocals to a goalkeeper character.

The Japanese international, who has played in the Italian Serie A for three years, seemed pretty contented with producing the anime series as he spoke to Sankei Sports.

“I am really happy to be doing this and I want [Shinji] Kagawa and [Keisuke] Honda to appear in the series too,” a pleased Nagatomo said.

Nagatomo has only recently fully recovered from a damaged knee ligament injury, and played for the first time since February in Inter’s 5-2 defeat to Udinese last weekend. With the Serie A having already concluded, the former F.C. Tokyo player will now set his sights on helping Japan in their 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Australia next month.
